Court Strikes Out Suit Against #EndBadGovernance Protesters, IGP, DSS, Others

political news

In a surprising turn of events, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a lawsuit against anti-hunger protesters due to lack of diligent prosecution.

The case, filed by 17 Nigerians, aimed to terminate the nationwide protests, citing violations of their fundamental rights. However, the absence of both plaintiffs and defendants, as well as lack of legal representation, led Justice Peter Lifu to strike out the suit.

The plaintiffs, representing the six geopolitical zones, had sought a court order to compel authorities to enforce their rights and bring the protesters to order.

They cited instances of property damage in various locations as part of their argument. However, their failure to prosecute the case diligently led to its termination.

The defendants, including the Take It Back movement, Nigerians Against Hunger, and high-ranking government officials, also failed to provide legal representation or offer excuses for their absence. Justice Lifu expressed frustration at the development, concluding that the plaintiffs were no longer interested in the case.

The dismissal of the suit raises questions about the commitment of the plaintiffs to their cause and the effectiveness of the legal system in addressing grievances.

The anti-hunger protests continue, highlighting the ongoing struggle for economic and social rights in Nigeria.
